The End We Start From (2023)
Based on Megan Hunter’s acclaimed novel, The End We Start From follows a new mother escaping a devastating flood shortly after giving birth. Rather than focusing on the destruction itself, the film explores the intimate human experience of living through environmental crisis, and what happens when the world we know begins to change.
Key takeaways
The End We Start From demonstrates how climate storytelling can work through character, emotion and everyday experience. By keeping the focus on one woman and her family, the film creates space for audiences to connect with the consequences of environmental change without relying on spectacle.
As producer Leah Clarke says:
“I hope people connect with the idea of how this could happen to them and choose to function differently as a result.”
The End We Start From was produced by Leah Clarke and Adam Ackland for SunnyMarch, Liza Marshall for Hera Pictures, alongside Amy Jackson and Sophie Hunter, with support from the BFI, BBC Film, Anton and C2 Motion Picture Group.
