Putting Nature in the Picture

Putting Nature in the Picture celebrates the power of nature-led storytelling, showing how creative choices can weave environmental awareness into narratives without ever feeling preachy.

A short film that inspires

Our short film showcases the diversity of nature-driven stories across genres. Voiced by Asim Chaudhry (Dirty Business, Black Mirror, People Just Do Nothing), it features contributions from leading studios and broadcasters including BBC, Channel 4, ITV, Netflix, Open Planet, Sky, UKTV, BFI, Universal Production Music, and Warner Bros. Discovery.

It’s a celebration of the creative potential that nature brings to our screens.

A Creative’s Guide

Why It Matters

Research from Professor Miles Richardson (University of Derby, 2025) found that Britain ranks among the least nature-connected nations.

Stories have the power to reconnect people with the environment: the more audiences see nature on screen, the more they care about it in real life.

“As storytellers we know the stories we tell shape what people see. And what people see shapes what they care about. The screen industry undoubtedly has an opportunity here to make real world impact through storytelling.

There are already so many excellent examples of creatives and commissioners actively putting nature in the picture, including and beyond what you see in our short film and Creative’s Guide.

This initiative from BAFTA Albert seeks to celebrate this incredible content and inspire even more creatives to harness the power of nature in their storytelling.”
