Join BAFTA Albert at SXSW London

On 2 June, BAFTA Albert is heading to SXSW London to explore sustainability in filmmaking and how the creative industries can help shape stories of resilience, action and change.

Taking place from 1–6 June, SXSW London brings together the sharpest minds across politics, science, and the arts, through provocative debate and positive storytelling, to reframe the world’s most pressing challenges into the breakthrough opportunities of tomorrow.

This year, the festival features more than 800 speakers, including BAFTA Albert’s Managing Director Matt Scarff and Head of Climate Content Catherine Ellis, who will share insights on sustainable production, climate content development, industry-led climate action and audience impact.

Screen Roundtable: How to Make a Film Sustainably

Tuesday 2 June, 1.20 – 2.20pm,
Shoreditch Town Hall

As the industry shifts into more co-productions, often involving large logistical operations with a high carbon footprint and new technology such as artificial intelligence threatens to set environmentally focused initiatives back a decade, sustainability in film is more important than ever.

This roundtable will explore practical ways productions can reduce impact and build more sustainable ways of working across film production.

Roundtable co-leads: Alex Browning and Matt Scarff.

Can Creative Industries Spark a Story of Resilience?

Tuesday 2 June, 2.30-3.30pm
Juju’s Bar and Stage (Main Space)

Climate shocks are no longer isolated events. Fires, floods, droughts and extreme weather are already reshaping what feels liveable, investable and insurable around the world.

We know change is needed. But when information can feel overwhelming, polarised or politicised, who helps shape hopeful and engaging stories about the future?

This panel explores what the creative industries, entertainment sector and cultural storytellers can bring to conversations around adaptation and the future economy and how storytelling can help people imagine futures where communities can still thrive.

Full panel, including Head of Climate Content, Catherine Ellis, to be announced.
